(RALEIGH) -- This is the time of the year when hurricanes are most likely to form. While the coast of North Carolina gets the most attention, Nick Pietro with the National Weather Service in Raleigh says sometimes storms that make land elsewhere can cause headaches in our state, citing one storm from last year.
"The remnants of Lee tracked right up along the Appalachians and dumped a tremendous amount of rain, resulting in localized flash flooding in the mountains of North Carolina and even spawned a few tornadoes," he said.
There have been several cases in recent years where storm remnants caused flooding problems in Asheville and other parts of the mountain region.
