BOONE -- Police officials say there were two assaults on female Appalachian State University students around the last week of August, and one assault might have contributed to Anna Marie Smith being missing. Family spokesman Dana McKim says that Anna came home for only one day during the Labor Day weekend, and that she was distraught

McKim said, "She was very upset. She was very distraught. And, in all of that, she was also clear about what exactly had happened to her; where, when, and why."

The investigation into the disappearance is ongoing.
